Oilily Tights for Little Girls
oilily-girls-tights
There is a cool crisp breeze in the air, apple festival time has arrived and Halloween decorations fill the stores. Gone are cotton sundresses, it is time for dressing up my toddler in tights and warmer dresses and skirts. She has several pair of tights, but her favorites are the styles from Oilily. Oilily tights are thick, cozy and hold in the washer and dryer. They also come in charming colorful designs that look adorable on little girls’ legs. They look very pretty with fall dresses and corduroy skirts.

Shearling boots would be the perfect complement to these fun tights or how about a pair of sweet mary janes?

Get Personalized with a Custom Address Stamp
personalized-stamps
Now that summer is over and the kids are back in school, I’m determined to be organized for the busiest time of year. Along with fall and winter come multiple holidays, social events, birthday parties and then as soon as you can catch your breath Christmas has come and gone. No more attaching return address labels on our family’s holiday cards until the wee hours. This year I plan to order a personalized return address stamp. I found these self-inking customized stamps that will be my new personal-izing assistant! Not only can these be used for return addresses, and look great on the back flap of an envelope I might add, but they can be used to personalize note cards as well. The personalized stamps from Three Designing Women (love the name!) are designed to personalize blank note cards, wine tags, gift tags, notepads and calling cards. You can also use these self-inking stamps with your own blank stationery or stickers. I love all of the unique designs and cute, modern note cards. They have something for classic tastes as well as modern design fans. The stamps are available at the Neiman Marcus website and you can also find coupon codes for Neiman’s here.

Corral Toy Clutter with Stylish Fabric Bins
nettocollection-felt-boxes
The battle to keep toys tidy and in their place is a 24/7 job. The key to keeping toys from mysteriously multiplying around the house is to place storage bins in each room. Corralling toys is easy when you have a stylish storage container like these from the Netto Collection and Dwell Baby.
The Netto Collection felt storage boxes. Made in Canada of thick plush felt, the containers come in white and gray. Although a bit on the pricey side these beautiful boxes are made by a company with sustainable and eco-friendly business practices. Their furniture collection is non-VOC and uses sustainably harvested wood. These boxes are meant to complement the Netto Collection changing tables, but I also love them on their own, inside a bookcase or under a bench as a hideaway for toys in our living room.
Also stylish on their own or to complement the Dwell Baby line, these Dwell storage bins are they key to keeping clutter in check. Use the chocolate dots design for family living areas or the “Gio” aqua design for use in children’s bedrooms. Measuring 15″wide x 17″h x 15″ deep this box can hold a play date’s worth of toys and can even be used as an ad-hoc laundry bin.

Inspire Young French Chefs with “You’ve Got Recipes: A cookbook for a lifetime”
youvegotrecipes
As a mother with a school-age daughter, one of my primary goals since her birth is to provide healthy nutritious meals as well as expose her to many foods and flavors from around the world. We are blessed to live in San Francisco with a plethora of options for locally grown organic produce as well as restaurants and markets from almost every corner of the earth.
Recently we were invited to a friend’s house for a book signing of a new children’s cookbook titled, “You’ve Got Recipes: A cookbook for a lifetime”. The culinary adventure is the illustrated tale of a Parisian mouse Sophie Souris and couple of San Francisco raccoons named Cleo and Henry who correspond via email and share recipes in a unique culinary cultural exchange. Authored by Jerry Di Vecchio and Francoise Dudal Kirkman. Jerry is a former Food Editor at Sunset for over four decades and Francoise is a French-born and Paris trained artist who was a Sunset Magazine art director. Growing up in Northern California my parents were and still are avid readers of Sunset and we often attended the annual open house in Menlo Park, California. I have fond memories of the beautiful test kitchens and sunny Spanish architecture of the grounds there, so I was thrilled to meet Jerry and Francoise!
The book is suited for 7 to 14 year-olds and teaches in bilingual text the basics of French cooking techniques, rules of the kitchen (r├ęgles de base). As my daughter is also enrolled in a French immersion program I as eager to jump right in and begin cooking recipes from the book and I’m always up for new recipes as well. All of the recipes in “You’ve Got Recipes” are everyday comfort food dishes and are perfect for kids (and moms!) who love to cook. Recipes include: Poulet Roti, Carottes et Pommes de Terre, Pizza Croustillante, Pan Bagnat, Croque-Monsieur, Sandwich Paresseux, and many others. I can always use some help in the kitchen making use of my Le Creuset pots and this book is one way to inspire my child with the creativity of global cuisine .

Gear Up for Potty Training
pottytraining
Arm yourself with everything you need for successful potty training. Start with a potty seat that is comfortable for your child. My recommendation for a potty seat is the Baby Bjorn Toilet Trainer. It adjusts to fit any toilet seat and has a rubber ring to keep it in place so that it won’t slip. It is made of one solid piece of smooth plastic so there are no sharp edges. There are plenty of different types of seats to choose from. Find one that suits the needs of your child and yourself.
Next you will need some “tools”. Here are a few of my favorites:
BooksSometimes it takes awhile to get the job done. Books help keep your toddler entertained while on the potty- hopefully long enough to make something happen. Books on the potty training topic are particularly helpful and can be read to the child prior to starting the training process to gear up.
Potty Charts Children do well with positive reinforcement. Track their progress with stickers and reward them when a goal is reached.
Training Pants Go old school with cloth training pants and a plastic cover for faster results. Your child will feel when he/she is wet and will likely learn a lot faster.
Potty Training Doll– a potty training partner in crime!
M&M’s When all else fails, bribe them!

Back-to Cool With a Colorful Pair of Old School Kicks
toddleradidas
The beginning of the school year is only a couple months away. This fall my daughter will be starting preschool. Our daughter is excited as is our entire family, she will be making lots of new friends and learning a new language as part of the Mandarin immersion program. There is a lot of preparation and a checklist to attend to. Clothing name tags, BPA-free lunch boxes, Sigg water bottles, and not to mention the potential separation anxiety. Lots of play clothes and shoes are in order.
In particular some really cool sneakers that will not get lost in the sea of toddler-sized shoes at naptime. I’ve spotted a bright colorful pair of Adidas on two different girls at the playground and had to ask where they were from. “Nordstrom and not too expensive about the same as a price of Crocs,” the mom answered. Hmmm, they are so cute so I did some research and found a couple of pair of old school inspired sneakers in neon bright kid-friendly colors that my daughter will love. The adidas-Streetrun-IIIs ($34.99 – $44.90 available in infants to big kids sizes) are my first pick, so cute and in colorful cool girly colors. A refereshing change from the pink/brown/white palette. The velcro is also another must-have feature for Miss independent to put her own shoes on. Two other completely adorable styles I spotted are the Nike ‘Dunk Low’ Sneaker, $35 – $47 walker to little kids sizes. Very sweet, but not so sure about the white and the laces for me to tie every morning as we rush out the door. Lastly, this almost blinding shade of blue is a fun design that will look great on kids but perhaps a little silly on adults. It is the Adidas Originals Infant/Toddlers’ Detroit II Running Shoe, $34.95 infant to toddler sizes.

Plan Toys Eco Friendly Drum Set
plantoysdrumset2
I’ve been searching for a modern, well made and eco-friendly drum set for my toddler daughter. Up until now she’s created her own impromptu drum set with my All-Clad sauce pans. Big mistake. It’s time to invest in a proper drum set to save my pots and my sanity. The Plan Toys drumset is much less disruptive than my cookware and is set up to develop hand eye coordination. I love that the set is made from eco-friendly and renewable plantation grown rubber wood and is colored with non-toxic vegetable dyes. In fact we are huge fans of all of the Plan Toys products, next on our list is the contemporary doll house, it’ll make the perfect gift when birthday time rolls around.

A Children’s Summertime Classic – The Original Saltwater Sandal
saltwater_sandals
Generations of children recall endless summer days wearing the original Salt Water Sandal made by the Hoy Company of St. Louis Missouri. They’re called the “Salt Water” Sandal because they stand up even in salt water. You may remember wearing these exact sandals as a child. I do! I love the traditional classic lines of the “Original Sandal” style and the fact that these shoes stand up to hours of summer playtime. The flexible sole and heavy durable leather straps are comfortable and long lasting. Your child will most likely grow out of these sandals before they wear out. White and brown are the original colors with fresh bright shades such as fuchsia, orange, yellow and lime added to the collection.
