To Cleanse or Not to Cleanse?

That is the question…
The past few weeks I have been desperately trying to shed some weight and for the life of me, it’s just not in the cards. I’ve cut out diet coke, have been trying to eat every few hours, have gone to the gym, took an incredibly difficult body toning class, and yet, when I attempted to put on my favorite jeans or a skirt that was swimming on me last year after my successful run with Jenny Craig, everything is tight.
Actually, everything is really tight. And I’m not happy about it. I don’t know why I always manage to sabotage myself right when the weather starts getting nice and now I’m trying to figure out the best way to shrink the belly, thigh and knee fat that have taken up permanent residence in body. I’ve got friends doing Nutropia, but I ditched that after a week. My mom is a Weight Watchers success story. I just found out that Freshology, the diet that Ricki Lake lost tons of weight on is now in my area. And another mom told me about the Master Cleanse– which guarantees that you’ll lose at least six pounds and rid your body of all the toxic crap you’ve been ingesting over the last few months.
While I’m usually not a magic potion drinker, there is something interesting about that Master Cleanse thing. I mean, maybe that is what my body needs. An inside out car wash if you will. Let’s clean out the splenda, mono sodium glutamate, white wine, chocolate cake and all the other junk I’ve been eating while trying to lose the same 10 pounds I battle every single year.
Of course, I’m sure that after I lose the six pounds, I’ll probably gain it right back but if I can at least get a kick start and fit back into my formerly comfy jeans (notice how I don’t say skinny jeans), I’ll at least be back on the road to sveltesville.
What diet is working for you? Comment now or forever hold that piece of cake.

Thursday Fave Fives

Today’s edition will center on our favorite subject…weight loss and fitness. So without further ado, here’s our picks of the week on the diet front.
1. The Latest Diet Sensation – Who would have thought that I picked the one diet that Mario Lopez’ friend is trying out too. It’s called Nutropia and so far, I’m on day three. While I have only lost about 1 pound, I do like the meals and snacks so far and have managed to convince my girlfriends to try it too. So we’re all comparing notes on their best dishes. and I’ve found the breakfasts and desserts to be my favorite…so what else is new?
2. Ballet Anyone? Just watched a video today on Taxi TV about how Crunch gym is offering ballet and yoga classes for gym enthusiasts looking to get leaner and toner limbs. Who needs an elliptical machine when all you need to do is remember the moves for first, second and third position?
3. Splenda with Fiber – We attended a really cool event compliments of Splenda – we’ll be sharing details real soon, but we got to take home an awesome goody bag filled with tons of Splenda treats, a cookbook on how to whip up some delicious smoothies and a box of splenda with fiber. I’ve been using the packets the last few days and so far, so good…it works!
4. The Fabulous 15 – Role Mommy has just been selected to be a part of Frito Lay’s Fabulous 15 to share the inside scoop on their latest line of healthy snacks for women. They’ve even created an innovative and entertaining website with animated shorts of women who seem oddly familiar. Not because they look like me but because they say exactly what I’m thinking. We’ll be sharing details on all the great snacks they’re offering but for now, visit A Woman’s World and get ready to crack up.
5. What’s Age Got to Do with It?: Living Your Healthiest and Happiest Life – This latest book by bestselling author Robin McGraw is an incredibly helpful resource offering advice from doctors, fitness experts and more on how you can be fit and healthy at any age. We’ll be speaking with Robin this week so if you have any questions for her, just say the word and then tune into our show at Blog Talk Radio.

The Monday Fave Five

It’s been a fabulous weekend…actually spent the night away from home with my hubby and the place we traveled to tops our fave five list. So take a look and if you have some fave fives, you want to send our way, then what are you waiting for?
1. An Overnight Getaway – for couples who are stressed over the demands of family, jobs, the economy, cold weather, and more, I highly recommend getting away – even if it’s just for one night. This past weekend, we joined our friends on a roadtrip to Lambertville, New Jersey – a quaint colonial town that’s chock full of antique shops, great restaurants, bars and is literally a foot bridge away from New Hope, PA. Best of all, it was only 90 minutes from our house. For those of you parents on the east coast in need of a quick getaway, book yourself at the Lambertville House, then head to Marcia Browns for drinks, the Boat House for more drinks and Anton’s for dinner.
2. The Perfect Prescription for Small Business Owners…in the interest of full disclosure, my finance guru hubby just launched a blogging community called The Budget Doctor and trust me, if you are in search of great tips on how to save money or get back money that’s owed to you, you’ll want to join the site right away and start saving!
3. I Beg Your Pardon…I’m Gonna Promise You an Herb Garden…big kudos to First Lady Michelle Obama who is planting an herb garden at the White House and invited 26 school kids from Washington D.C. to help her with planting. As the herbs and vegetables grow, the students will be invited back to tend the garden and then eventually use the veggies and herbs to whip up a meal in the White House kitchen. I’ve just decided…Sasha and Malia Obama have the coolest mom on the planet.
4. The Zone is about to get some competition. After eating like a fiend this weekend and finishing off our bender at McDonald’s, my friend and I decided we were back on the dieting wagon. So this year, as we gear up for summer and bathing suits (OMG), she’s convinced me to give a new meal plan a try – Nutropia. This program enables you to order your meals online, select the number of days each week you’d like to receive it and best of all, since the meals are prepared by chefs, the choices change every week so you’ll never get bored! And my friend says someone in her office did it and the weight seemed to melt away. I know slow and steady wins the race but considering it’s almost April, it’s time to get serious or risk another season of very long bermuda shorts.
5. Latest Peanut News….The Associated Press ran a story this week on the recent peanut scare and Role Mommy was quoted. Though the number of peanut fans is dwindling, we still are partial to fluffernutter sandwiches and PB&J (especially on a Weight Watchers mini bagel)…hmmm…maybe I should have one of those before those Nutropia meals start getting delivered to my door. I know, I am hopeless.
