Skylanders is “mixing it up” with the newest game in the award-winning, top-selling franchise. Skylanders SWAP Force builds upon the success of the franchise’s signature gameplay and collectible toy experience, adding an all-new dimension to the “toys to life” innovation. Fans also can play Skylanders SWAP Force with their entire collection of 100+ characters from Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure® and Skylanders GiantsTM.
This is the only family-friendly game for the next generation consoles coming out (PS4, Xbox One)… And it comes out on just about everything – 3DS, iOS (iPad), Wii, Wii U, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and more!
Skylanders SWAP Force features new abilities – such as flying, climbing, digging, bouncing, or teleporting – which can be used in previously unexplored areas of Skylands centered on these play mechanics. Additionally, the game features 16 new core characters, eight new LightCore™ characters and 16 new versions of fan favorite Skylanders from previous games. Now kids will have more than 100 characters from which to choose. The game’s high-resolution graphics brings detailed characters and richer environments to life, immersing players in the game like never before.
Dynamic Swapability – Skylanders SWAP Force features 16 new SWAP Force inter-action figures with new powers and a fresh play pattern – dynamic swapability – that lets kids create more than 250 unique character combinations, giving them more choice than ever before over how they fight and move in the game. Don’t know where to take your kids in this sweltering heat? If you’re visiting New York City, you won’t want to miss SPY: The Secret World of Espionage. Keep reading to find out how you can win two tickets!
Ever get the chance to see an umbrella that turns into a device that can assassinate a world leader? Or see a shoe phone that was used by a real spy and not Maxwell Smart? Want to climb through a laser maze and then disguise your voice so that nobody knows it’s you? Then do we have the place for you!
We recently hosted a fun and educational event for parenting bloggers and their families at the newest interactive attraction at Discovery Times Square… SPY: The Secret World of Espionage. This amazing exhibit offers visitors the first-ever public exhibition of treasures from the collections of the CIA, the FBI, the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), and H. Keith Melton, the renowned author, historian, and international authority on spy technology. For the first time ever, SPY grants guests unprecedented access into the real world of espionage by providing a first hand look at the weapons, surveillance cameras and disguises used during some of the biggest spy cases in history. Take a look…
SPY’s extensive collection of espionage-related artifacts, both historic and contemporary, come straight from the unparalleled 10,000-plus personal artifact collection of H. Keith Melton, author of several books on the subject, including the best-selling The Ultimate Spy and the forthcoming Spy’s Guide to New York City. The remaining artifacts and surveillance videos come from the collections of some of the world’s leading intelligence agencies, including the CIA, the FBI and the NRO. There has never been a shortage of intrigue in the world of spies, and the artifacts and interactives in SPY vividly tell their stories, past and present, through actual tools, technologies, and testimonials.
Among the extraordinarily rare items are:
Charlie the Catfish, one of two CIA Robotic Catfish
Sleeping Beauty, the British WWII Two-Man Submersible
Cockpit of the A-12 Oxcart Spy Plane, one of only nine remaining in world
The photography bucket from a CORONA satellite
KGB Pinhole Drill Kit, used to spy on the US Embassy in Russia
Check out the awesome video trailer my niece Dani shot of our experience:
Of particular interest to New Yorkers will be artifacts, video surveillance tapes, and other items from the collection of the FBI related to “Ghost Stories,” the infamous Anna Chapman Russian spy case that beguiled New Yorkers and, indeed, all Americans just two years ago. The case is arguably the most successfully foiled clandestine operation in contemporary American history, and visitors will see shocking, recently declassified surveillance videos of the undercover Russian spies in New York City, along with many of their personal belongings and tools.
In addition to the fascinating artifacts, SPY will allow visitors the unique opportunity to experience first-hand the technologies and tools utilized by intelligence agencies across the globe. Visitors will see and hear from real spies telling their personal stories, including from Oleg Kalugin, the former head of KGB Counterintelligence in Washington.
The entire family will find this exhibit fascinating, there is something for everyone. Visitors to SPY will find an educational, entertaining introduction to spy skills and techniques that have not previously been displayed, Melton noted. “New York will get a thrill equivalent to opening an envelope marked ‘top secret.’ Espionage is so much more than what you see on TV – there are real dangers and incredible technologies involved, and SPY lets you experience it all. For the general public, visiting SPY will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
Tools, Tricks, and Technology of “The Secret World of Espionage” is now on display at Discovery Times Square located at 226 West 44th Street (between Broadway and 8th Avenues). The interactive exhibition is open Sunday – Thursday, from 10am – 8pm, and Friday – Saturday, from 10am – 9pm, with the last allowed entry 45 minutes prior to closing each night.
Want to enter to win two tickets to Spy: The Exhibit? Then enter below and you and a guest may be escaping into the secret world of espionage!

Even though Christmas comes along once a year (and I’m Jewish), I have to say that it feels like it’s Xmas in August. The reason? Some of my favorite books have been turned into movies and they’re all coming out this month!
First up was “The Help,” which opened in theaters nationwide this week. My mom and I read the book in a matter of days and after we caught and advanced preview we felt the film absolutely stayed true to the novel and we totally loved it.
Another book I read last summer that I couldn’t put done at all was “One Day,” a novel about a British couple who meet during a one night stand in the eighties who carry on an on again off again friendship and romance that spans twenty years. I remember last year when I was reading the book and falling in love with the characters that it was being turned into a movie and even back then, I couldn’t wait until it came out. Well, as I said, the holidays for me have arrived early. On August 19th I’m taking a movie holiday and “One Day” will be one of my gifts to me. Take a look at the trailer…
Directed by Lone Scherfig (director of “An Education,” Academy Award-nominated for Best Picture), the motion picture “One Day” is adapted for the screen by David Nicholls from his beloved bestselling novel One Day. After one day together – July 15th, 1988, their college graduation – Emma Morley (Academy Award nominee Anne Hathaway) and Dexter Mayhew (Jim Sturgess of “Across the Universe”) begin a friendship that will last a lifetime. She is a working-class girl of principle and ambition who dreams of making the world a better place. He is a wealthy charmer who dreams that the world will be his playground. For the next two decades, key moments of their relationship are experienced over several July 15ths in their lives. Together and apart, we see Dex and Em through their friendship and fights, hopes and missed opportunities, laughter and tears. Somewhere along their journey, these two people realize that what they are searching and hoping for has been there for them all along. As the true meaning of that one day back in 1988 is revealed, they come to terms with the nature of love and life itself.
And now, get ready for a cool prize pack valued at $170 compliments of Focus Features.
One (1) winner will receive a “One Day Summer Beach Kit” that includes:
· $25 Fandango Gift Card
· Copy of the book (movie tie-in edition)
· Beach Tote
· Beach Towel
· 4-pack nail polish
· Clear cosmetic case
· Moleskin® Journal

We finally have our winners in the MobiStories.com road trip tips contest! The producers at MobiStories combed through nearly 100 comments and the following entries have come up on top!!!
Grand Prize Winner – iPod Touch:
Wendy Toone comments: “For the sheer fantasy aspect – I wanna party with this family!”
EWalsh40 – on June 27, 2010 1:23 AM
“Use your imagination, in order to encourage your kids to use their own. Especially when they’re little. It’s not just a trip to the Grand Canyon. You have to go there so that you can yell into the canyon so that the rock king will release all the fairies that he has captured and is keeping in a cave to keep him company.
And is that just a cow standing by a fence? Or is it really one of the Rock Kings minions, waiting to report back to him that you’re on your way?
Go to the thrift store and buy old funny clothes and hats, and to the dime store for fake glasses with the nose and mustache and make up a disguise bag so that everyone can travel incognito.
Use the keypad on the iPod touch to send secret messages or make phone calls to the Fairy Queen and let her know that the mission is on schedule.
Have binoculars for scoping out the territory for spys, special foods that make you temporarily invisible and books about fairies so that you’ll recognize them if happen to catch a glimpse of any that might be following you, to make sure that you make it safely to your destination.
Before you know it, you’ll be there and they might even be disappointed that the trip is over
Runner up – $25 iTunes Gift card

My top tips for traveling with kids….Always figure it is going to take more time than Mapquest says. Add bathroom stops times two- I leave early in the morning at 3:00
AM, so I don’t have to deal with traffic and my kids are slepping for a good part of the trip. This is also a great time to introduce new games, especially handheld ones. We also love approriate books on tape and sing along CDs (Sorry, I want to kill Barney or Ernie on the drive back home-after hearing the song 500 times! We pick up lots of little indidvual , easy to eat none messy snacks. This is not the time to worry about keeping a clean car. We also play, yes the license game, find a word starting with a, b, c.. and the kids must learn some new history item about each place we stop.
Runner up – Tom Paxton Autographed copy of “The Marvelous Toy”

Popular car games include finding words in signs that start with every letter in the alphabet, or for older kids, “Movie matchups”: Pick a question, like, “Who would be better at getting out of a traffic jam?” and offer two movie characters. They have to not only choose one, but defend their choice. (Note that the non-driver should act as MC for this.)
I bet you’ll be surprised when I tell you this little tidbit about myself. I love racing games. While I would never think to set foot in a race car, from the time I was a kid, I used to love hopping inside one of those video games where you were virtually transported to a racetrack and attempted to corner those curves and cross the finish line without spontaneously combusting. In fact, about a month ago, I took my son bowling and after my 89th gutter ball, we hit the videogames. While Dylan played his own car game, I hopped aboard a motorcycle, flew through the air and crossed the finished line with a third place win. Of course, the vehicle was mounted to the floor so I got all the thrills of the real thing without being freaked out on the open road.
So imagine my excitement when my son and I got the chance to review the new game Nitro Need for Speed for Nintendo DS. This time, the excitement of car racing is placed in the palm of your hands. Customize your car, take corners at 200 mph, travel to exotic locations and even compete against evil villains! Plus, while you’re racing, you’re also being chased by the cops, who will do everything they can to disrupt the race.
If you’d like to get a sneak peak of the game, check out this video and if you like what you see, get ready for a chance to to win. Comment and re-tweet this post and make sure you include your email address. By next Friday, we’ll let you know if you’re one of five winners who will receive a copy of Nitro Need for Speed for Nintendo DS. So what are you waiting for? Comment and tweet for a chance to win!
Our winner has been announced in our Oprah giveaway! Congrats to Thrifty and Chic for your comments…you win a selection of Oprah’s favorite things for yourself and your little one!
Hold on to your snow hats ladies because do I have a giveaway of the day for you. In honor of Valentine’s Day, I received a very special gift from the folks at the brand new Oprah Store. Now if you’re like me and you’ve watched those “Oprah’s Favorite Things” episodes religiously, then you know that the Queen of Talk is also a master at selecting the cream of the crop when it comes to clothes, furniture, books, you name it, when Oprah selects a product as one of her favorite things, then you know that what you’re getting is amazing.
Making our lives even easier, the Oprah Store features all of Oprah’s favorite things both in person (if you happen to be in the Chicago area) and online too. And best of all, they recently sent me a few incredible items to check out for myself and I have to say, the quality is amazing.
The first item was a baby blanket with satin embroidered trim that is so soft that my 11 year old daughter attempted to claim it as her own. However, we’re going to save it for a lucky Role Mommy reader because the package also came with an adorable animal bib too! If you’re a new mom and can’t get enough of those cozy blankets then comment on this blog post today and you may be receiving it soon!
Next up are the gifts that a mom will love and no, it’s not wine and chocolate – although that’s always nice, it’s a cozy yoga track suit and comfy chenille socks! I can just imagine Oprah in the stock room going through the merchandise saying, you know what? Beth doesn’t need anything fancy – her favorite thing to do is kick back and relax on the couch while she writes – why not send her a yoga suit so she can craft the perfect blog post in style!
And I don’t know about you, but nothing makes me happier than having warm feet during the winter time and while I recently plunked down a chunk of change on a pair of Ugg slippers, I have to say I am so loving my pink chenille socks as I type away on my couch. Kind of makes you want to take a nap with a baby blanket perhaps.
But I digress, if you’d like to check out what The Oprah Store has to offer then visit today! Plus, if you’re ready to buy now, the Oprah Store is offering free shipping with no minimum purchase to Role Mommy readers.
