Thanks to the fabulous Jessica, who is the founder of A Parent in Silver Spring, is an editor at Parents Connect and as I found out today, is expecting her third child (congrats Jess), I got the chance to find out about a wonderful program called the Every Little Bottom Diaper Drive – an initiative spearheaded by a mom who launched the organization to help bring attention to the issue of diaper need and to help develop a sustainable solution.
Jessica invited me along with a few of my favorite blogging moms to a top secret event at Babies R Us in Union Square where “Grey’s Anatomy” star and mother, Ellen Pompeo, was on hand to share why she’s become involved. “As a new mom, I was shocked when I learned how prevalent diaper need is in the U.S. It is heartbreaking to imagine the ongoing struggle these moms face to provide enough diapers to change their babies and the toll that takes on babies in our own communities,” Pompeo said. “I am proud to be an Every Little Bottom ambassador to help spread the word, and encourage communities to help us collect and donate diapers to babies in need.”
In an ongoing effort to help the 1 in 3 American mothers who struggle to provide diapers for their babies, Kimberly-Clark’s Huggies Brand today announced it will launch a first-of-its-kind national diaper drive as part of its program, Every Little Bottom. The diaper drive will include a series of local drives, events, a donation from the brand and other activities to generate up to 20 million diapers for babies in need. Jessica, who was also named an ambassador for the campaign, shared an innovative way that working moms can be a part of the diaper drive. Check out Jessica’s post here.
Next up, Adam, founder of Dada Rocks whose adorable son and wife joined him for the event, shared how fathers can get involved and do their part to host a “Dad Shower.” I loved the fact that his station had cards and dice nearby. Just because you become a dad, doesn’t mean you can’t do a cool diaper drive with your closest buds.
Next, we got the chance to have a brief chat with Ellen, who appears to be one of the calmest moms I’ve ever met. In fact, she shared that her one year old sleeps 12 hours a night! She credits her former baby nurse Elva, who showed her the ropes when her daughter was born and spent six months helping her care for her infant after she had returned to work shortly after giving birth. Despite her incredibly hectic production schedule, Ellen brings her daughter to the set every day and says life has never been the same ever since her little girl entered her life. Now that’s my kind of Role Mommy.

A Great Brussel Sprouts Recipe from Alma Schneider
I have a new found love for Brussel Sprouts. I really enjoyed roasting them but now I shred them and saute them. So quick and easy, nutritious and delicious. I hope you like them!
Shredded Brussel Sprouts with Pecans and Currants:
5 large Brussel sprouts put through a slicer attachment in a food processor or thinly sliced with a knife.
1 -2 TBS olive oil
1/4 tsp salt, more to taste
Ground pepper to taste
2 TBS currants or raisins
1/4 cup chopped pecans
In a medium sized saute pan, heat up oil over low-medium heat. When hot (see if a piece of sprout sizzles), add the Brussel sprouts and stir to coat sprouts with the oil. Saute, stirring often for about 10 minutes or until sprouts are wilted. Add salt, pepper, currants and pecans and stir for another few minutes. Serve immediately.
