How to Combat Mean Girls
This week's Lifetime Moms Clean Start Challenge assignment features an interview with Adele Griffin, a young adult novelist and author of the best seller The Julian Game
"The Julian Game," focuses on the topic of mean girls and cyber-bullying. The book centers on Raye Archer, a new girl who moves into town and feels like an outsider until Ella, the most popular girl at school, uses her to exact revenge upon the school's heartbreaker, Julian. Although Raye secretly harbors a crush on Julian, she follows Ella's orders in order to get into the "in" crowd. Raye creates a fictitious Web profile to lure Julian in, and the two develop an online relationship that eventually carries over into the real world. But that's when Raye's life becomes a living nightmare, when Ella tries to destroy her online and at school by sharing the details of their plan with all of her friends.
While speaking with Adele, she revealed that she was bullied when she joined a new school and had to contend with mean girls and managed to make it through by finding a few friends who remained her close confidantes throughout high school. I also got the chance to meet Adele's mom Priscilla Sands who is a principal at an all girls school and helped her daughter as she did her research for the book. Then, at 5pm ET Dr. Phil hosts a live chat on UStream today following their show which features Meaghan Martin and Maiara Walsh, stars of Mean Girls 2. The girls will be on Dr. Phil today (check local listings for time and station) to speak out against bullying, and share their advice with some real life mini mean girls.

Lifetime Moms Clean Start Challenge - Week 8
The pressure is on as we reach the home stretch of the Lifetime Moms Clean Start Challenge. For the last three months, I've been meeting incredible individuals - from bullying prevention experts to authors, actresses and more and this week, I'm sharing the latest details about our upcoming event on March 3.
Our post this week shares all the details about what goes into planning an event of this magnitude. In fact, later this morning, I'll be designing a flyer that we can send out to parents in our community in the hopes that they will join us for a very special evening with their kids.
My amazing coach Shaina shares great advice this week on how you can plan a community event in your area. And I have to say, when you do plan a large event, there are tons of logistics that go along with it. From selecting the venue, to arranging the set up on stage, to providing food and refreshments, to designing programs, to producing the actual discussion amongst experts, parents and kids.
During the event, we'll start out with parents and kids together in one auditorium and then, we'll be producing separate workshops for students while experts speak with parents about the dangers of cyber-bullying and bullying. I'm hoping to craft an experience for adults and students where everyone is welcome to share their opinions and experiences, ask questions, listen and learn. We have a lot of ground to cover in two hours but my hope is that by the end of the evening, everyone will walk away feeling informed and inspired.

Lifetime Clean Start Challenge - Week 7
We're into the second leg of the Lifetime Moms Clean Start Challenge and this week, we hit the road and met an inspiring mom, author and actress who helps kids become "bully proof" by boosting their self esteem at an early age. Taryn Grimes Herbert is the author of the "I've Got" Books interactive book series for children. Taryn's books have been created to help children ages 5 - 12 sort out their feelings in a fun and colorful way. They also provide an incredible tool for parents, counselors, and educators to use in everyday character-building.
Taryn is also columnist for New Rochelle's AOL Patch, where she frequently writes about topics surrounding bullying prevention.
