I Am Officially The Biggest Loser
I don't know about you, but my life has been in fast forward mode for several months. I haven't had a chance to relax for a second and even when I took a vacation this past week, we hit Disney, Universal, Sea World and Gatorland in five days, then took a plane home to New York where we circled White Plains for nearly an hour, then landed at JFK, took a bus back to White Plains and then, after traveling by car in thick pea soup fog, we finally arrived home at 2 am.
When I got around to unpacking this morning, I realized that I lost something...again. This time, it was a shoe. Over the last month I haven't lost weight but I have lost possessions. No - I wasn't robbed. Just careless. It started about a month and a half ago when I nearly lost my diamond tennis bracelet while I was racing around town with my clients. While we found the bracelet, that same day, I lost my new scarf in a taxi cab. Then, a few days later I nearly lost my laptop when I placed it on top of a bunch of magazines while I paid for gum and an US Weekly and as I walked away, realized something was missing. Thankfully, I raced back and my Mac Book Pro was still there.
And then there was my earring. After I went to the gym, I noticed that only one of my favorite earrings was missing. Looked all over, but couldn't find it anywhere. Meanwhile, a few days later, I officially lost my bracelet. Rather than get the safety clasp fixed, I kept checking it wherever I went and during a rare moment when I wasn't paying attention, it disappeared into thin air.
For the life of me, I can't remember the last time I was wearing my bracelet and nearly had a nervous breakdown when I realized it was gone. And now, nearly two weeks since I lost it, I've still been looking all over my house, hoping it'll miraculously turn up. But it's gone and I'm a big loser. This is the second time I've lost an amazing piece of jewelry (inadvertently threw out my wedding band when I was 9 months pregnant) - and at this rate, I don't think I'll ever receive an expensive diamond gift again (sniffle, sniffle). While some people have lost their shirt in the stock market, I'm doing my part to contribute to our nation's crumbling economy by losing expensive jewelry, scarves and one black sandal.
I guess I should look on the bright side. In an effort to cheer me up, my mom told me that Angelina Jolie just lost a pair of diamond earrings that were worth over $100,000. Thanks Angie. At least I'm not the only one.

OMG, Beth, I could have written this (or @marketingmommy, FWIW). I lost my wallet without realizing it until my husband called to tell me after a very kind stranger found it and called my house to let me know.
I left my iPod shuffle in a hotel room last summer. These tiny electronics are killing me. I need the big old military field phone like Radar had on M*A*S*H.
No, you are not alone.

I found you through the coffee club. What an awful run of bad luck you have had. I'm SO glad you didn't lose your laptop though. Yikes! -- Heather
Just dropping by from MomLogic's Coffee Club and wanted to say hi! I really like your style of writing, Beth. I'm not that bad (yet), but I am getting a little forgetful of where I put things...and we all know where we place things of value - in a spot where you know you'll remember them, but never can! Thanks again for putting a smile on my face.

Hello! Found you on MomLogic Coffee Club. Love your site. I'd lose my head if it weren't attached! Hope your bracelet turns up - you never know!
It makes me crazy to lose things!
This post is reminding me to calm down. Great post.

This reminds me to resize my wedding ring. Its loose and I keep looking at my finger to make sure its still there.
Hope your luck gets better real soon !!!!!
It's so good to know that I am not the only one that feels we are all living in the fast lane. I guess we all need to slow down and stop and grab the laptop. lol I hope your bracelet shows up.
You remind me of my husband. He loses things all the time. He also misplaces things everyday and spends so much time searching for the same things over and over. I also wanted to let you know that I am a big fan or you and your blog. Thanks for all that you do to help other bloggers.
I always had a great memory until I had my son last year. I don't know what happens when you give birth, but I spend most of the day walking around looking for things I've misplaced. Even worse is looking for thoughts I've misplaces, like I went upstairs for something, but can't remember what it was. I blame it on lack of a decent night's sleep.
If I find a bracelet on the street, I'll mail it to you!
Wow, been there done that. I swear after you have children you share a piece of your brain with them that you never get back. I'm always misplacing things or losing them. I stopped wearing my good jewelry due to this fear. lol
I am a finder ,topping that list is weight, one sock in the dryer, looking in the mirror and finding one earring.LOL
I hate losing things but always seem to be misplacing things, such as car keys, work keys and my sunglasses. Hope you find your bracelet.
Wow--This could have been written by me (minus the expensive gifts). I honestly spend about half of my life looking for stuff that was "just here a second ago"
If it's any consolation, I hope it'll turn up for you someday. I'm sorry for your misfortune.
Sometimes my daughter knows where things are that have "disappeared". I don't know how...
