Kelly Ripa Goes Green

01.JPGWhile we usually watch her every morning while pedaling away on our recumbent bike at the gym, Role Mommy got a big treat this week when we got to see Kelly Ripa in the flesh at the unveiling of a brand spanking new washing machine that has been named in her honor.

The Kelly Green Electrolux front loader washer and dryer was revealed at a flower shop in SoHo and according to the brand team, the new machine is energy efficient and easier to use than most washing machines on the market or the clunker that's currently taking up space in my home. Personally, I call mine the "No frills Feldman water-hogger" that dates back to the turn of the millenium.

But back to super mom of three and Electrolux spokesperson Kelly - who also shared that this April, just in time for Earth day, Electrolux is kicking off its virtual flower garden campaign to drive awareness and raise funds for Global Green USA. Starting today, when you go to electroluxappliances.com and plant a virtual flower for a friend, Electrolux will donate $1 to Global Green USA to support their healthy green schools initiatives across America.

02.JPGTo drive participation and help spread the word, everyone who logs on to the site and plants a virtual flower for a friend will be automatically entered for a chance to win a new Kelly Green front-load washer and dryer from Electrolux.

"Earth Day is a great time to renew one's commitment to being green. When you plant a flower in the virtual flower garden, you'll feel good, do good, and brighten someone's day," says Ripa. "You might even be lucky enough to win a new Kelly Green eco-friendly washer and dryer from Electrolux."

Kelly also revealed that her own kids attend an eco-friendly school where they get to plant trees in Central Park each year.

04.JPGFollowing the announcement, Kelly entertained the paparazzi by posing for dozens of photos and showcasing the appliances with the precision of a "Price is Right" girl. As I watched her flash that megawatt smile, I started daydreaming about how great the new Electrolux washer and dryer would look in my laundry room. Guess I'll have to wait until my machine finally breaks down...dare to dream, dare to dream.

  • Spin dryers such as at http://www.laundry-alternative.com/drying.htm blow away even the top of the line washers or dryers when it comes to energy efficiency. The spin speed is about twice that of the fastest washing machine, and they are about 100 times as energy efficient as a conventional tumble dryer.
